Words-Wright

From Wordsworth's The Prelude

Dust as we are, the immortal spirit grows
Like harmony in music; there is a dark
Inscrutable workmanship that reconciles
Discordant elements, makes them cling together
In one society.

If we, as we are, are dust, and dust, as it will, rises,
Then we will rise, and recongregate
In the wind, in the cloud, and be their issue,

Things in a fall in a world of fall, and slip
Through the spiked branches and snapped joints of the evergreens,
White ants, white ants, and the little ribs.

Scattershot MFA and Other Notes

So much fun and serious reading at the MFA residency. I am so glad that I went. This week, I've had a tiny little lupus flare. No steroids yet. Please no steroids.

For the residency, I wrote a rhyming, metered sonnet. Cannot believe it's still in me to do such. I even like it.

When bitching about not being able to write a blank verse assignment (30 lines, with dialogue), my genius teacher Phil Stephens told me my fiction (which I read at the student reading) was in blank verse. Went back to every story and there's a freakin' blank verse (lyric) section in all of the newer ones. No wonder they (read Redbook, et al) stopped taking them. I sound like Archibald McLeish. Maybe in not good way...LOL. I'm going to try blank versing a whole scene and see what happens.

Everyone in my workshop was fun. Preacher, Latin scholar, community college teacher, Spanish teacher, and moi.

Coming back to transcription training:

* She complained of severe constipation, which was treated with anathema.
* The kidney stone fragmented into several peaches.
* The patient had had penistration of the labryinth of the ear. (should be fenestration).

Oh, those newbies.

Have had several submissions returned with nice notes. That right there is a victory of source.

I'm enjoying the "L" birthday.

I don't know what this means, but all of us poets are in the same wing on the same floor in the same dorm.

Having a great time.

Book 'em, Danno.

Today, although unfortunately not in Hawaii, I'm 5-0.

I share this day with Tom Hanks,David Hockney, Elias Howe (the inventor of the sewing machine), and O.J. Simpson.

If I had been born in Kentucky instead of Colorado, my birthday would be tomorrow!
